Course Overview:

Health promotion is a process of enabling individuals and communities to gain greater control over their health and wellbeing and this imperative , The course highlights the policy imperatives linked to enabling and empowering people to collaborate, participate and engage in partnerships to promote their health to link the paradigmatic shift from reductionism to a whole systems approach in scientific thinking generally, to the shift from individual behaviours to settings within health promotion . It also highlights the significance of stakeholder involvement in all stages of the planning and evaluation process.
Action to promote health through different settings can take many forms. Actions often involve some level of organizational development, including changes to the physical environment or to the organizational structure, administration and management. Settings can also be used to promote health as they are vehicles to reach individuals, to gain access to services, and to synergistically bring together the interactions throughout the wider community.Health promotion offers effective methods and tools that empower individuals, families, communities, governments, social institutions, civil society and businesses to take steps to prevent ill health and reduce risks from current determinants of health. Health promotion also offers future-oriented health strategies to build robust population capabilities while conserving resources sufficient to meet the needs of future generations. When people themselves are involved in making healthy decisions, future risks and threats can be anticipated and addressed, without being constrained by electoral cycles or leadership terms. Win–win options for health and development are the key to sustained health promotion in a changing world.The strong evidence base and existing programmes and infrastructure for Healthy Settings approaches mean that they are well-established models for integrated and intersectoral action, and that health ministries can build on this to achieve our goals. Health promotion and disease prevention through population-based interventions, including action to address social determinants and health inequity. Currently available tools have shown the ability to substantially impact transmission, morbidity and death caused by NTDs. However, new tools that are better adapted to evolving and changing epidemiologies can also help to achieve and sustain the elimination targets.

Training needs:

  1. Lack of basic information about health associated infections causes, how to prevent and how to deal and exercise at end of each session
  2. Lack of information about the scope and reach of health promotion, with a focus on speeding up action where need is greatest, to achieve equity.
  3. Lack of knowledge about policies across sectors and levels to address the determinants of health and health equity.
  4. Review the effectiveness of health promotion methods used for smoking prevention and cessation.
  5. Ensure that all people, governments and diverse sectors participate in action to achieve better informed about decisions that impact everyone’s health
  6. Evidence of health promotion effectiveness is needed to demonstrate to decision-makers that health promotion works and is an effective strategy in public health; to support practitioners in project development and evaluation.
  7. the juncture between environmental health and health promotion and underscores the need for health promotion involvement in environmental health practice.

Outcomes

  1. The participants are able to exchange knowledge and experience from the training and are able to apply the knowledge and experience to add value to their works effectively.
  2. Provides a rich source of ideas and case examples which highlight the challenges for promoting health in a range of contexts.
  3. Learn a range of theoretical issues and ideas that are central to informing the promotion of health using a settings approach and, as such.
  4. Identify the different types of partnerships for health within and between settings and the key elements to effective partnership working.
  5. Discuss the challenges and opportunities for developing the evidence base for settings-based approaches.
  6. Enhance health promotion human resources, sustainable financing, accountability and information systems.
  7. Spreading The concept of innovative and intensified disease management by tackle diseases that require individual-level care either because they are complex to manage or because effective diagnostic tools and medicines are unavailable.
